Aurat Foundation Meets IG Sindh Prisons to Advance Prison Reforms and Access to Justice

The Karachi team of Aurat Foundation called on Mr. Fida Hussain Mastoi, Inspector General (IG), Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service, to introduce a new European Union-supported project focused on improving prisoners’ access to justice, legal aid, rehabilitation, and social reintegration in Pakistan.

During the meeting, the Aurat Foundation team shared the project’s objectives and highlighted its commitment to strengthening prison reforms through evidence-based interventions, institutional capacity building, and the promotion of human rights within correctional facilities. The discussion emphasized the importance of ensuring equitable access to legal assistance and rehabilitation services for prisoners, with a particular focus on vulnerable and marginalized groups.

Mr. Fida Hussain Mastoi warmly welcomed the initiative and appreciated the European Union’s support for advancing prison reforms in Pakistan. He expressed the Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service’s commitment to working closely with Aurat Foundation to improve correctional systems, enhance rehabilitation mechanisms, strengthen institutional capacities, and promote the protection of prisoners’ rights in accordance with national and international standards.

Both parties held a constructive discussion on potential areas of collaboration, including legal awareness, rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, capacity-building initiatives for prison staff, and policy dialogue to support sustainable prison reforms across Sindh.

The introductory meeting concluded on a positive note, with both organizations agreeing to formalize their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the coming weeks. The proposed collaboration is expected to establish a strong institutional partnership aimed at improving access to justice, promoting rehabilitation, and supporting the successful reintegration of prisoners into society.
