16 Days of Activism Campaign Raises Awareness on Gender-Based Violence and Digital Safety

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign was actively implemented in Swat under the global theme “End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” running from 25 November to 10 December 2025. The initiative aimed to raise awareness on gender-based violence (GBV), digital safety, women’s legal rights, and available support and referral mechanisms.

In Swat, a series of awareness sessions, seminars, and interactive discussions were conducted with diverse community groups, including women, men, persons with disabilities, and minority participants. The sessions focused on key issues such as domestic violence, online harassment, cyberstalking, and legal protections under relevant national and provincial laws. Emphasis was also placed on digital safety, including protecting personal data, using privacy settings, and reporting cybercrime.

A total of 53 participants took part in the Swat activities, including 49 women and 4 men. The engagement ensured inclusive participation while maintaining a strong focus on women’s empowerment and awareness of legal rights.

Resource persons from civil society organizations, legal experts, and community representatives facilitated the sessions, providing practical guidance on referral pathways, helplines, legal aid services, and institutional mechanisms available for survivors of GBV. Participants were encouraged to report violence safely and seek timely support through available services.

A key outcome of the activities in Swat was increased awareness and improved understanding of gender-based violence and digital safety among participants. Women and girls demonstrated greater confidence in discussing sensitive issues and showed willingness to seek help and support others facing violence.

The campaign also contributed to strengthening community-level monitoring and response mechanisms. Notably, through the Alliance’s proactive engagement and documentation efforts, seven cases of murder and five cases of domestic violence were highlighted within a short period, which sparked urgent community dialogue. As a result, a monitoring committee was formed to ensure timely follow-up, coordination, and accountability in GBV-related cases.

Overall, the 16 Days of Activism in Swat successfully enhanced community awareness, strengthened reporting mechanisms, and promoted collective responsibility in addressing and preventing gender-based violence, particularly digital and domestic forms of abuse.
