High- Level Consultation on Tobacco Control with Sindh Provincial Authorities and Assembly Officials

The Aurat Foundation (AF) team leader Mr. Safdar Raza held a meeting with the Minister for Women Development, Government of Sindh, Ms. Shaheena Sherali, at her office in Karachi on 11 November 2025. The meeting was attended by a delegation of Aurat Foundation led by Regional Director Ms. Muneezeh Khan and Senior Manager Ms. Malka Khan.

During the meeting, the AF delegation briefed the Minister on the progress and implementation of the anti-tobacco campaign in Sindh, highlighting key activities, outreach efforts, and ongoing advocacy initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use. The Minister appreciated the initiative and assured full support from the provincial government for the effective implementation and expansion of the campaign across Sindh.

Separately, a delegation of Aurat Foundation led by Regional Director Ms. Muneezeh Khan, Team Leader Mr. Safdar Raza, and Senior Manager Ms. Malka Khan also met with the Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Mr. Anthony Naveed. The delegation briefed him on the progress of the anti-tobacco campaign in Sindh, with special emphasis on the status of a pending resolution on tobacco control in the provincial legislature. The Deputy Speaker informed the delegation that the resolution is currently under the vetting process and assured that once it is formally tabled, it will be given due consideration in accordance with the Rules of Business of the Assembly. Both engagements reflected strong institutional support for tobacco control initiatives in Sindh and underscored the importance of continued collaboration between civil society, the provincial government, and legislative bodies to advance public health objectives.
