MAV Deployment Under UNDP Project in Sanghar

With the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Aurat Foundation is implementing a project on Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and voter education across five districts of Sindh: Ghotki, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, and Karachi West.

In Sanghar district, the project aims to facilitate the issuance of first-time CNICs for 2,500 women and girls. In collaboration with NADRA, mobile registration vans are visiting villages and Union Councils, making it easier for women and girls to obtain their identity cards without having to travel long distances.

Women and girls have responded enthusiastically to the initiative, recognizing that a CNIC is essential for accessing government welfare programmes and public services. It also enables them to exercise their constitutional right to vote independently and participate fully in the democratic process.

Many young women shared that obtaining a CNIC would allow them to continue their education, while others said they needed it to apply for the government’s Pink Scooty Scheme. However, two girls were unable to receive their CNICs because they were still two months short of the minimum age requirement of 18 years. They expressed deep disappointment, having eagerly come with their families in the hope of obtaining their identity cards.

During the activity, a UNDP team from Islamabad visited the registration site to observe the ongoing work and interact with community members. The Chairman of the Union Council also visited the camp and announced that Union Council Ghundan would waive all fees for issuing the certificates required to obtain CNICs. Appreciating the initiative, he commended Aurat Foundation for its efforts to empower women by improving their access to legal identity and democratic participation.
