Mock session at Hassan Garhi, Peshawar

A Mock Session on Access to Justice was conducted in Peshawar under the CSOs Engagement component of the Rule of Law Project, supported by UN Women. The session aimed to enhance women’s understanding of legal rights, available justice mechanisms, and referral pathways for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).

The session focused on child marriage and domestic violence, highlighting common forms of GBV and the legal protections available under the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act. Participants also discussed the social impact of disasters such as floods, which often increase the risks of early marriages, domestic violence, and other harmful practices affecting women and girls.

A total of 72 women participated in the interactive session, which used role plays, group discussions, and real-life scenarios to strengthen legal awareness and encourage community engagement on women’s rights and protection.

Key achievements of the session included increased legal literacy on GBV laws, child marriage, harassment, and domestic violence; strengthened awareness of referral mechanisms including Women Support Services (WSS) centers, legal aid services, and justice institutions; and promotion of survivor-centered approaches that encourage women to report violence safely and seek support.

The session also raised awareness about crisis-related vulnerabilities faced by women and girls, including exploitation and harmful practices, while encouraging community dialogue on the role of men and boys as allies in preventing violence. Participants were empowered to recognize and claim their rights, fostering local advocacy for women’s protection and access to justice.

Overall, the activity successfully built women’s confidence to access justice and increased awareness of the legal remedies and institutional support available at the district level.
