Aurat Foundation’s work at the community level, crossroads, and with minority women, professionals, and marginalized groups has been truly impactful.

A Journey of Empowerment: 12 Years with Aurat Foundation* I am honored to share my experience of working with Aurat Foundation, an organization that has been at the forefront of promoting women’s rights and empowerment in Pakistan. I spent 12 years in AF, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the organization’s mission in various roles, working across provinces to bring about policy-level changes and support grassroots initiatives. My journey with Aurat Foundation began as my first organizational role, and it has been a transformative experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work on landmark initiatives, including drafting laws that have advanced women’s rights. One of my proudest achievements was contributing to the development of the Sindh Domestic Violence Act 2013, a crucial step towards protecting women’s rights in Pakistan.

Aurat Foundation’s work at the community level, crossroads, and with minority women, professionals, and marginalized groups has been truly impactful. Their initiatives, such as advocating for 70% representation of women in national and provincial assemblies, 33% reservation of women seats in local government, and reforms in rape laws, have been groundbreaking. The organization’s approach of empowering group leaders and forming groups has created a ripple effect of change.

I learned immensely from my time at Aurat Foundation, particularly from the leadership of Nigar Ahmad, Shehla Zia, Anis Haroon, Naeem A. Mirza, Mahnaz Rehman and many more. What sets Aurat Foundation apart is how they treat their employees – not just as staff, but as assets. Their approach made me feel valued and enabled me to contribute more effectively. I had my own dreams and aspirations, and I worked hard to achieve them with the unwavering support of my parents, husband, and family. Aurat Foundation provided me with a platform to amplify my efforts, and I’m grateful for the experience. Today, as the Chairperson of the Commission on the Status of Women, I recognize the significant role of my family and Aurat Foundation played in shaping my professional journey and reinforcing my commitment to women’s empowerment.
