Aurat Foundation’s legacy echoes in every stride towards gender justice and human rights in Pakistan.

Aurat Foundation’s 40-year journey is deeply interwoven with the country’s most defining moments of resistance, reform, and reclaiming space. It is not simply an institutional milestone, but a record of the unrelenting efforts of those who advanced women’s rights amid adversity. From resisting discriminatory legislation to amplifying grassroots voices, the Foundation has remained a steady force in Pakistan’s social and political landscape.

As Chairperson of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), I have witnessed the critical role Aurat Foundation continues to play in shaping advocacy and public consciousness on gender equality. These pages do not only commemorate but educate, provoke, and inspire. They serve as a mirror to our past and a map for future generations.

This archive is a testament to what sustained commitment can achieve. It documents the path taken by those who refused silence, who organised, legislated, marched, and transformed structures from within. Aurat Foundation’s work resonates deeply with the mandate of NCHR to protect and promote the fundamental rights of all, especially the most vulnerable.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the team behind this effort. Their labour has ensured that these histories are not forgotten or diminished, but remain alive in public memory, offering clarity and strength to those continuing the struggle for justice.
