It is a special privilege to extend my heartfelt felicitations to Aurat Foundation on completing 40 extraordinary years of transformative work in advancing women’s rights, gender justice, visionary leadership, intellectual activism, institutional advocacy and inclusive development in Pakistan. I can still recall, time when Nigar Ahmed spoke to us at a Women’s Action Forum meeting that founding an institution that would take forward the Women’s right agenda underpinned by research, policy advocacy, collaboration, publication and long term commitment beyond activism. Founded by the trailblazing and indomitable Nigar Ahmad, Aurat Foundation has been at the forefront of mobilizing women at the grassroots level through a multifaceted approach encompassing legal reform and political participation.

Aurat Foundation’s sustained engagement with policy processes, its deep-rooted community networks, and its commitment to democratic principles have collectively contributed to the structural transformation of gender relations in both rural and urban contexts. Its legacy is not only one of resistance and reform but also of building enduring frameworks for inclusive governance and participatory development.

As we navigate the intersecting crises of gender inequality and climate change, the Foundation’s current emphasis on intersectional justice and feminist leadership is both timely and critical. By centering marginalized voices in climate resilience and policy innovation, Aurat Foundation continues to shape the contours of a more equitable future. On behalf of SZABIST, I extend deep appreciation for Aurat Foundation’s enduring contributions and look forward to continued collaboration in shaping a just, equitable, and sustainable future for all.
